Wisconsin guard Tyler Herro commits to UK

Wisconsin guard Tyler Herro surprised no one today when he signed with the University of Kentucky.

The four-star Herro had originally verbally committed to home-state Wisconsin before changing his mind about two months ago and re-opening his recruitment.

Herro thanked those who had supported him and those who had pushed him to be better.

“I have to commit to coach john Calipari, Big Blue Nation and the University of Kentucky,” said Herro before putting on a UK hat and taking off his sweatshirt to show the UK T-shirt he already had on.

Many Wisconsin fans were upset with Herro’s decision not to stick with his original commitment.

“I just listened to my family. I have a lot of people supporting and and just followed what I believed in. I just stayed off social media,” Herro said during his signing ceremony. “It was tough turning my back on the state I guess you would say but I had to do what was best for me.”

Herro is not projected as a one-and-done player which is fine with him.

“When you think Kentucky you think a one and done school but in talking to the coaches they are not rushing anybody to get out,” Herro said. “They are good at developing. You are working two or three times a day on your goal.”

Herro said he basically knew he would commit to either Kentucky or Kansas when he re-opened his recruitment even though he also considered Villanova and Oregon.

“Kentucky was on my mind for a while. That’s why I committed without taking any other visits,” Herro said. “I think me going there with other guys in our class and other guys that will stay with what I can do and they can d we can be pretty good.”

The 6-5 guard had offers from Arizona, Auburn, Boston College, Creighton, DePaul, Florida, Indiana, Iowa State, Marquette, Nebraska, Purdue, Wisconsin and Xavier.

  1. What is the over/under for years he remains a wildcat? 2?

  2. it is hard not to like everything a bout the guy. Yes, he made a quick decision but apparently for all the right reasons. My guess is that this team might be a little more coachable after tonights game.
