New Louisville basketball coach Chris Mack is fully ready to embrace the rivalry with John Calipari and Kentucky.
Mack during his introductory press conference Wednesday that a rivalry like that gets “your juices flowing” and pointed out that the Xavier-Cincinnati rivalry (he was the head coach at Xavier) have had some “incredible” games/battles that he loved being a part of.
“I’m not naive enough to think that the UK-Louisville game isn’t one of the best in the country,” said Mack. “All eyes usually around Christmas time — I’m usually sitting in my in-law’s house over in Shepherdsville, watching the game because it is during our Christmas break.
“I’m excited, but our season won’t be one game. But you can bet we’ll be ready to go next year at the Yum!”
Mack said he talked twice to former Louisville coach Rick Pitino, who was fired before the season started.
“He has been awesome,” Mack said. “He had nothing but great things to say about the city of Louisville, Louisville basketball, the players he recruited here and his support of me.”
