Volunteer registration for Barbasol Championship Goes Live at Midnight

LEXINGTON (March 26, 2018) – Bluegrass hospitality will be on display to the world in the form of more than 1,500 local volunteers when the PGA TOUR’s Barbasol Championship comes to Central Kentucky this summer. Tournament organizers bd Global and the Bluegrass Sports Commission announced today that public registration for volunteer positions will go live tonight at 12 a.m. at www.barbasolchampionshipky.com.

“Putting on a world-class event such as the Barbasol Championship is a tremendous undertaking and local volunteers will be the single-most important piece of that puzzle,” said Brooks Downing, President and Founder of bd Global and the tournament’s Executive Director. “Just as we saw at the World Equestrian Games and the Breeders Cup, the volunteers are the first contact point for our visitors, so it’s critical that we assemble a roster of individuals that will showcase our southern hospitality.”

The July 16-22, 2018 contest is Kentucky’s first PGA TOUR event since the 1959 Kentucky Derby Open and will carry a purse of $3.5 million and award 300 FedExCup points to the champion. Because this is the Tour’s long-awaited return to the Bluegrass State, attendance at Champions at Keene Trace is expected to be strong, with some estimates between 80,000 to 100,000 for the week.

Volunteers are needed to staff a wide range of duties such as walking scorers, standard bearers, marshals, transportation, Golf Channel support and general tournament support. As typical at professional golf tournaments, the volunteer fee is $75 per person, which each package providing a Nike polo shirt and hat, tournament tickets, parking pass and a round of golf at Keene Trace (on select dates/times). A $35 junior package is also available for ages 14-17. Volunteers will be required to work 3-4 shifts each.
