UK will get official visit from Florida QB Nik Scalzo

By DUSTIN CORDELL, Contributing Writer

Nik Scalzo is a pro style quarterback out of Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fl. Nik is listed as a 3-star prospect in the class of 2019, while he is listed as the 13th rated prospect at his position.

Nik stands 5-foot-11, weighing 180 pounds, which is a little small for a Eddie Gran quarterback. With that said, his size and style matches up well to a current Kentucky quarterback in the form of Walker Wood.

Nik recently visited the University of Kentucky where he hung out with none other than Walker Wood . Nik arrived a day early where he talked with quarterbacks coach Darin Hinshaw and watched film of plays. He then went out to a Thursday dinner  before going out with Walker Wood.

Being from the state of Florida you can probably already guess that Eddie Gran has been his recruiter from the Kentucky staff.

When asked about the coaching staff Nik, raved about Mark Stoops, calling him an “amazing coach.” He also went on to talk about current players on the Kentucky roster from the state of Florida. Nik mentioned Marvin Alexander, Tymere Debose, and also talked about playing against Stanley Gardner last season in high school.

While it may or may not be an advantage for Kentucky, it can not hurt  its chances with Nik considering the Florida vibe at Kentucky currently between players and coaches alike.

It is safe to say a commitment from Nik should not be expected anytime in the near future. He informed me he has no plans of narrowing him list of schools or setting any kind of decision date at this time.

He said nothing will change in his recruitment until after he takes official visits, which he has planned for this summer.

Most important is that Nik tells me that Kentucky will be getting one of his official visits this summer.

  1. I don’t know much about this kid, other than he is a 3* QB and really undersized for the SEC IMO. I also read here, “he has no plans of narrowing his lists of schools.” I think I see where this is going. So UK gets an official visit, big deal. I predict he will eventually give UK the cold shoulder, as others from Florida at his position have done in the past. Besides, UK needs a big framed, rocket armed, 4* or 5* QB that is a dual threat type signal caller, and one big enough to see over this huge offensive line UK will hopefully field in the next couple years. The kind BP seems to sign with regularity at Louisville, and in every recruiting class it seems. He develops them too. QB’s like Brohm, Bridgewater, Jackson, and the big kid that will be following the legend, Lamar Jackson in 2018. That said, I don’t think this current UK offensive staff, including Gran, and Hinshaw, is developing QB’s at UK very well these days. The word may be out too. Anybody remember Phillips, Towles, and Barker. I did not see much QB development last year either. SJ was a great athlete with tremendous heart, but he will not go down as a great UK QB based on his passing stats. Not a single backup QB, minus Wilson, on this team took a game time snap that I can remember during the 2017 campaign. No wonder they are not ready. Gunnar should have seen the field last year IMO. I didn’t see much to cheer about from the QB position at the 2018 spring game either. So, I say this kid signs with another school besides UK. I hope I am wrong about all this.
