LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the first time in program history, the Kentucky softball team placed two players on the Academic All-America team, with both junior Katie Reed and sophomore Bailey Vick earning First Team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors on Monday.
Reed and Vick are both receiving their first-career Academic All-America honors. Reed was named CoSIDA Academic All-District for the second time in her career earlier this season with Vick’s All-District honor coming as the first in her career.
The tandem join Meagan Aull (2011) and Breanne Ray (2017) as the only two prior Academic All-Americans in program history. This is the first time a UK player has been named to the first team, as both Ray and Aull were second-team honorees.
Reed hit .352 on the season with six home runs and a career-high 32 RBI. The sophomore out of St. Louis, Missouri was named Second Team All-SEC, All-SEC Defensive Team as well as the 2018 SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year. Reed had 14 stolen bases on the season with seven doubles, a team-leading four triples and 45 runs scored – which led the club.
Vick led the Wildcats in batting average following a 2017 campaign that saw her named to the 2017 SEC All-Freshman Team. This year, the Paducah, Kentucky native hit .357 with 56 base hits, a double and team-best 17 stolen bases. Vick had 11 RBI on the season and started in 54 of the 56 games for Kentucky this season. She was the only sophomore named to the first team.
