Almost as soon as Fort Lauderdale quarterback Nic Scalzo verbally committed to Kentucky, he made it clear that he hoped to persuade Cardinal Gibbons teammate Nikolas Ognenovic, a three-star tight end, to do the same thing.
The 6-5, 235-pound Ognenovic had 14 scholarship offers, including Louisville and Mississippi.
He came to UK’s Junior Day and came back to the Blue-White Game in April with Scalzo. He made another trip to Lexington in June with Scalzo before taking an official visit to Pittsburgh.
Scalzo praised Ognenovic’s size and ability to go over defenders to catch passes and also notes that he sometimes lines up at receiver where he can be a problem to tackle after making a catch.
“He also does a great job blocking,” Scalzo said.
Ognenovic is the 13th commit in Kentucky’s 2019 class, and the first tight end.
