Speculation continues about whether or not Pendleton County standout Dontaie Allen, one of the top contenders for 2019 Kentucky Mr. Basketball honors, will get a scholarship offer from Kentucky or not.
Southeastern Conference schools Florida, Auburn and Vanderbilt have all offered him. So has Western Kentucky, Xavier, Oklahoma, Illinois, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Saint Louis and others.
And yes, Louisville did make an offer to the 6-6 Allen Sunday after his impressive AAU play in Georgia last week.
Kentucky has not offered — yet. Kentucky coach John Calipari did watch him play last week. Assistant coach Joel Justus hosted Allen for an unofficial visit last month and has been in touch with the family.
However, one is coming. It might be a week. It might be two weeks. But several sources have indicated that Kentucky is about ready to make the offer.
If it happens, what will Allen do? Will he commit quickly to the school he’s grown up watching? Will he decide to take three, four or five visits? Will he sign in November or wait until spring?
Nobody but Allen can answer those questions if a Kentucky offer does come — and it sure looks like one likely will come before this month ends.
