What has been a spectacular week for Pendleton County senior Dontaie Allen just kept getting better Sunday night when new Louisville coach Chris Mack offered him a scholarship after watching him play last week in the Under Armour Challenge in Georgia.
The 6-6 Allen, who averaged 31.8 points and 11.4 rebounds per game last year, plays for M.A.T.T.S. Mustangs and led the event in scoring in Georgia and also was in the top five in rebounds and assists.
Auburn offered a scholarship Saturday after he got an offer from Florida on Wednesday. Offers from Illinois, Iowa State, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh and Saint Louis also came his way during the AAU event in Georgia.
Mack was recruiting Allen when he was at Xavier before taking the head job at Louisville. New Xavier coach Travis Steele has offered Allen and he also has offers from Western Kentucky, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.
Dan McDonald of Rivals.com watched Allen play in Georgia and came away impressed.
“He’s a really good all-around player. Easily a high major player,” McDonald said.
Evan Daniels of 247Sports Recruiting is another believer in Allen.
“Love his size, length and shooting ability. That’s what really has drawn the coaches in,” Daniels said.
However, it still has not “drawn” an offer from Kentucky coach John Calipari, who did watch Allen play for the first time Thursday.
