Kentucky coach Mark Stoops allowing media members to watch practice today just 11 days before the Cats open the season against Central Michigan Sept. 1 was a great opportunity to gauge just what to expect from this team.
Three things jumped out at me:
— Kentucky can win the look test. The Cats, especially in Stoops’ early years, didn’t look good enough to beat the best teams they faced. Now they do.
— I don’t know who will be the starting quarterback but I know this — I can’t really remember a year where UK had three quarterbacks in Gunnar Hoak, Terry Wilson and Danny Clark who all looked so good.
— Finally, it was great seeing UK offensive line coach John Schlarman on the field (as shown in the video above). We still really don’t know what health issues he’s facing, but seeing that smiling face and enthusiastic voice back out there with his players stood out more to me than anything else I saw at practice today.
