Not only is Kentucky back in the national football rankings for the first time in 11 years, but the Cats came back in with a bang at No. 17 in this week’s Associated Press poll thanks to Saturday night’s 28-7 win over Mississippi State.

Kentucky is off to a 4-0 start for the first time since 2008 and more importantly is 2-0 in Southeastern Conference play — with a win over Florida to end a 31-year losing streak — for the first time since 1977 going into this Saturday night’s game with South Carolina — a team UK has beat four straight times.

“There’s nothing cocky about this team, but they absolutely expected to play like this and that’s the way they prepared and that’s the way they’re going about their business and that’s what I love about this team,” Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said Saturday night.

South Carolina is not ranked but is coming off an impressive win at Vanderbilt. The Gamecocks, who opened the season at No. 24, are not ranked now but did receive votes in this week’s poll. South Carolina’s only loss this year is to No. 2 Georgia.

  1. No. 17, Awesome! Well deserved. Now stay hungry Cats. Get ready for the “Gamecocks!” They will be focused after your streak against them. Get after that bunch who will try and steal your glory. Don’t be denied, it is your turn!
