Louisiana QB watches UK win, commits to Cats

By LARRY VAUGHT

After Kentucky beat Mississippi State 28-7 Saturday night, UK coach Mark Stoops said the Kroger Field not only helped his team win but would also help recruiting.

He was right.

Not long after the game ended, Louisiana quarterback Amani Gilmore announced on Twitter that he had verbally committed to UK’s 2019 recruiting class.

Amite (La.) quarterback Amani Gilmore (6-3, 195) has committed to Kentucky, he announced via Twitter following the Wildcats’ 28-7 win over No. 14 Mississippi State Saturday night.

“First I want to thank the lord for giving the ability and talent to play this great sport. I also want to thank my family, coaches, Mentor and teammates for helping me through this process. After a great talk with Coach Stoops and and Coach Smith. I am 100% committed to the University of Kentucky. #GoBigBlue,” Gilmore wrote.

The 6-3, 195-pound Gilmore is a pro-style quarterback. He also had a SEC offer from Tennessee.

Gilmore was in Lexington Saturday on an unofficial visit. He has an official visit set for later.

  1. Why does UK recruit these pro style qbs and then never play them. Don’t this commit will stick.
I would love to see UK use a passing qb. With Wilson, we really just have an extra back. He doesn’t pass well enough to be a threat. If we come up on a team that can stop or slow down the run, I don’t think it will be pretty.
