Last week I had a chance to talk to a NBA scout about John Calipari’s team and upcoming season. He quickly agreed that the Wildcats had the talent to win the national championship. He was also just as quick to point out that he thought sophomore P.J. Washington would be the reason UK wins if the Cats do take the title.
First, he things Washington’s leadership is going to be a huge plus for Calipari’s younger players.
Two, he thinks the addition of Stanford transfer Reid Travis gives UK another inside physical presence to help Washington.
Third, and most importantly, he thinks Washington has a lot more to his game than Kentucky fans got to see last year when he willingly blended into the team.
Don’t forget, too, that Washington played the final three months of the season with a broken finger. That may not sound like a big deal, but it limited him at times and he just chose to play through the pain. Even in the Bahamas he was still adjusting to being back after offseason surgery on the finger and was still not 100 percent.
So if you thought P.J. Washington was good last year, I have a feeling you are really going to like what you see this year.
