Sophomore quarterback Terry Wilson made significant improvement between Kentucky’s first scrimmage in August and the second one where he won the starting job. Kentucky coach Mark Stoops is hoping it will be the same when UK plays at Florida tonight.
Wilson had three first-half turnovers in last week’s win over Central Michigan. He was replaced by Gunnar Hoak but then came back in midway of the third quarter to finish the ame.
“There’s nothing like simulating that in practice, even in scrimmages. To get a full game like that is really helpful for those guys,” Stoops said. “We can go back to Stephen Johnson and the progress he made from the first start on through that season. I’m confident in both of these guys. I felt like Gunnar and Terry both really had a good week.”
Running backs Benny Snell and A.J. Rose both ran for over 100 yards and two touchdowns last week. Stoops envisions a similar workload for both players at Florida.
“Every week those running backs take a beating. Benny can really withstand a great deal but I think with that talent it’s only right,” Stoops said. “The more confidence we have with the backups they’re going to play because they’re fresh and keeps Benny fresh. It brings us a changeup. Same with Sihiem. (King).”
