Wandale Robinson heads list of top recruits expects for South Carolina game

Wandale Robinson

Kentucky beat Mississippi State and got two more verbal commitments in the next 24 hours.

Coach Mark Stoops and his staff will again have a lot of recruits, including Western Hills star Wandale Robinson, on campus Saturday night when the Cats host South Carolina.

“It’s very important. It’s been a great atmosphere and very good for recruiting. We’ve had some officials and plenty of unofficials, as you know,” Stoops said. “We’ll continue to have the same.

“Definitely when you get off to the start we have and with the environment like that it’s a big piece of it to recruiting for sure.”

Robinson made an official visit to Alabama last weekend. He will be at Ohio State for his official visit the weekend of Oct. 6.  He’s also made official visits to Purdue, Michigan and Nebraska, which he has said remains his leader. Now there not only has been a buzz for Alabama, but also Ohio State with national recruiting analysts.

Western Hills coach Don Miller told me this week no decision has been made and no definite time set for his decision. Robinson’s father told me the same thing before they went to Alabama.

Louisville Ballard linebacker Jared Casey will also be on an official visit this weekend. He’s a four-star player who missed last season with an injury. He recently visited Oregon, which is perceived to be his leader.

Moore defensive end J.J. Weaver watched UK beat Mississippi State and will be back again. So will receiver Demontae Crumes of Louisville, who has already verbally committed to Kentucky.

Lexington Herald-Leader recruiting columnist Ben Roberts has reported that Ohio lineman Kyle Jornigan, though to be a UK lean, will visit this weekend along with South Carolina cornerback Jalen Geiger, a UK commit.

  1. Robinson is a 4* all purpose back with impressive stats. It appears he will sign with Ohio State, I hope not. Keep the recruits coming UK’s way, and many are considering UK now. Winning on the field brings results on the recruiting trail. That is why 5-0 is so important to UK football right here, and right now.

    1. I might add, the last ranking of the UK 2019 recruiting class I saw was at No. 37, with 18 hard commits. UK must do better than that to win in this league going forward.

    2. I would not write off UK just yet. IN fact, I don’t even think Ohio State is the team to beat at this point

      1. Hope he becomes a UK Wildcat, I will wait and see.

  2. To add food for thought, South Carolina’s current 2019 class ranks 16 nationally, and 7th in the SEC with 20 hard commits. One 5* and many 4* players dot the recruit list. Some say these star ratings don’t mean that much, don’t kid yourself.

  3. Stoops does seem to be falling behind in recruiting this year and hope that changes and a 5-0 start could be a good propellant. Say what you want about the coaching job at UT so far since the change, but the last time I looked they were rated #9 in the country (couple wks ago). I do think Pruitt will get the job done because of his credentials. Jones always seemed to out recruit Stoops but obviously didn’t get it done in coaching department.

    1. Maybe not getting in-state stars but overall still doing very well recruiting wise. Plus remember Josh Allen and Benny Snell were not considered big-time players when they signed with UK

      1. Josh Allen transferred from Alabama to New Jersey for his senior season in HS, I think that hurt his ranking. I recall his HS coach saying he was a steal for UK because he had a great senior year in New Jersey, but was not being heavily recruited. He has been Kentucky’s great gem. I still think for UK to excel in the tough SEC, more 4* and 5* players have got to be signed.
