Here’s part of what sophomore Nick Richards had to say following Sunday’s Blue-White Game where he scored 16 points and had 16 rebounds:

On how his demeanor has changed this year…
“I’m mostly just trying to have fun playing basketball again. That’s really basically it.”

On what has improved in his defense…
“I have more trust in my teammates that if I go for a block somebody is going to get the rebound for me. So, I would say just having more trust in my teammates.”

On how practice has been different this year compared to last…
“For me, it’s easier because I know what to expect and I know what’s coming towards us. It’s not really as long as last year. It’s more five-on-five, coaches talking to us and telling us what to do while were scrimmaging against each other but mostly it’s more fun. I enjoy it more.”

On playing around the rim…
“Our mindset is more paint touches that we get, the more it’ll open up for our shooters. We try to start up the game by attacking the lanes, try to get easy layups, try to get lobs and once the defense collapses into the lanes we just look for out shooters. That’s basically the game plan.”

On playing with a bigger lineup…
“It’s different because you know PJ [Washington]. PJ is basically positionless. In my eyes, he can play 2 through 5 and he can guard 2 through 5 at the same time. It’s going to be a nightmare matchup for a lot of teams. We’re still working on it—just another work in progress.”
