Louisville football is having a miserable season that figures to continue this Saturday when it plays at No. 2 Clemson, a 38-point favorite.
Remember a few years back when Kentucky hired Mark Stoops and not Bobby Petrino. How smart does that make Kentucky athletics director Mitch Barnhart right now?
Louisville is 2-6 overall and 0-5 in conference play. It figures to be 2-7 and 0-6 after this week and will still have Syracuse, North Carolina State and Kentucky left. Odds are the Cardinals could finish 2-10.
Attendance has been dropping and UK may have more fans at Cardinal Stadium Nov. 24 than what Louisville will have.
Petrino was asked Wednesday what kind of recruiting pitch he can make to players right now with the struggles Louisville is having.
“You know, you just keep recruiting. That’s what you always do, and our ability to get them here and get them to our new facility and see all the positive things that we’ve got going on, the commitment that the administration has made, they all understand that we have a very young team, so they’re excited,” Petrino said about players he’s recruiting.
Louisville has given up 66, 38 and 56 points the last three games. How would that have recruits excited? Louisville’s only two wins are over Indiana State and Western Kentucky. How would that have recruits excited?
Maybe Petrino is right, but it just seems to me that there’s not much to excite Louisville recruits right now.
