Citrus Bowl or Outback Bowl for UK? One bowl official says if Florida loses to Florida State, Cats may fall to Outback Bowl

Beat Louisville Saturday and Kentucky is headed to Orlando to play in the Citrus Bowl. That seems to be the foregone conclusion.

Kentucky is 8-3 going into Saturday night’s game in Louisville and CBSSports, College Football News, SBNation, NBC Sports and the Orlando Sentinel all have UK projected to be in the Citrus Bowl while NBCSports and ESPN’s Mitch Sherman have UK in the Outback Bowl in Tampa on Jan. 1.

Either bowl would exceed what most college football analysts had for Kentucky when the season started. Kentucky has played in the Outback Bowl and most UK fans seem to be hoping for the Citrus Bowl. However, at least one bowl official told me not to be surprised to see UK in the Outback Bowl.

“You asked me what I am hearing, and it is UK to Outback unless SEC plays four up, then Citrus,” the bowl official said.

Basically that means if Alabama, Georgia, LSU and then Florida all make the top 12 in the final college football power rankings, then those four teams all get into elite bowls. Florida is 11th going into this week’s game against Florida State and a win would keep the Gators in the top 12 of the power rankings and apparently put UK into the Citrus Bowl.

“But if Florida loses and drops out of the top 12, then I keep hearing Florida to the Citrus Bowl and UK to the Outback,” the bowl official said.

  1. We will be attending the game no matter where, if it’s in Florida, but we prefer the Outback because we live an hour south of Tampa.
GO BIG BLUE…MAKE IT A 10 WIN SEASON

  2. Identical records, I don’t see Florida as the 11th with a loss to UK at the swamp.

    1. Agreed
