Quade Green to freshmen: “Keep calm, be collected.”

It’s not hard for sophomore guard Quade Green to explain how to make the Kentucky offense better.

“We’ve got to cut the turnovers down and boost the assists. You’ve got to be comfortable with the basketball and put it in a good spot so everybody else can score it,” Green said Tuesday.

Kentucky plays again tonight against North Dakota in Rupp Arena.  Green is trying to help freshmen point guards Ashton Hagans and Immanuel Quickley make progress.

“Keep calm, be collected, just go out there and play. Don’t worry about anything else, just go out there and play. Have a ball. Have fun with this,” Green said he told them.

Green said the 34-point loss to Duke a week ago was “motivational” and nothing more. He’s told the freshmen that’s the only way to approach the loss.

“I like the freshman group that we’ve got. I love them, actually,” Green said. “They come in to work every day, so you can’t take anything from them.”

  1. I have a friend who preaches the assist to turnover ratio as one of the most important statistics in basketball. I agree with that assessment too.

This season has been dismal. UK has made 28 assists and 34 turnovers in 2 games while opponents are at 35-17. This is the mirror image of what UK Basketball teams ought to be about.

Bottom line, this group has not played good basketball the last four games, and my rule is five games define a trend!!!!
