St. Augustine a historic city with lot to see and do, so I will be back for more (Larry Vaught/Verizon Photos)

While the primary purpose of our trip to Orlando this week is to spend some quality time with Mickey Mouse at his wonderful world of Disney, my favorite part — no matter what else happens — will be our Monday journey to St. Augustine, about a two-hour drive for us.

Not only is St. Augustine the oldest city in the United States and filled with so many interesting sights, but former Boyle County High School basketball standout Candace Garrison — now Candace Garrison Coad — lives there and spend five hours showing us the town the the 3 million Christmas lights.

There are so many historic places to visit that our short stay could not do the city justice. So that’s why we have already decided we will be back — probably in September or October. That way I can enjoy the history — and the beach — along with what seems like an endless choice of unique and special restaurants.

So with no disrespect to the one and only Mickey Mouse, my Orlando week has already seen its highlight.
