Kentucky signee Dontaie Allen did indeed set a Marshall County Hoopfest single game rebounding record Saturday night when Pendleton beat host Marshall 50-45.
Allen was credited with 21 rebounds on the official stat sheet. However, Pendleton coach Keaton Belcher counted 23 rebounds when he reviewed the game tape and Hoopfest officials agreed after they reviewed the game tape.
The previous mark was 22 rebounds in a single game.
Allen was also 9-for-20 from the field and 6-for-10 at the foul line to finish with 25 points, two assists and one steal to go along with his Hoopfest record 23 rebounds.
“Dontaie was a man amongst boys the entire game,” Belcher said. “Marshall County played a diamond and one junk defense the entire game to slow him down and he still finished with 25 points and 23 rebounds. He truly deserved most valuable player of the game.
“The entire Marshall County experience was a life-long memory for our players.”
Allen now has 2,827 career pints and 977 career field goals (207 career 3’s) going into tonight’s game against Nicholas County. He’s already scored in double figures 100 times with 83 games of 20 or more points and had 60 double-doubles. He has 18 games with 15 or more rebounds.
Three rebounds tonight will put him at 1,100 in his career.
