DURHAM, N.C. — Duke freshman Zion Williamson has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 right knee sprain. He is progressing as expected, and his status is day-to-day.

Williamson sustained the injury in the first minute of Wednesday night’s game versus North Carolina at Cameron Indoor Stadium, and did not return.

The freshman is second in the ACC in scoring (21.6), third in rebounds (8.8) and leads the conference in field goal percentage (.683) and steals (2.2).

No. 1 Duke (23-3, 11-2) returns to action Saturday at Syracuse at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN.

  1. Quite a few pundits are calling on Zion to sit out the remainder of the season and a few pundits are even calling on Krzyzewski to put him on the pines.
It’s going to be interesting to see how this situation develops over the next few days.

  2. Now why would the “chief blue devil” do that, and for a sprained knee? Never happen.

    1. Trust me, I don’t expect Kryzshitski to do anything that will benefit anyone other than himself.
I’m merely relaying what some of the talking heads are saying.

  3. I have seen that replay many, MANY times. Something that I have not heard mention, and was painfully obvious, is that his foot slid on a wet floor and stopped when he got to a dry spot.
Now this guy his super-human, but he was not cutting hard, or planting or really even stressing his foot or shoe until he slid.
This was the first few seconds of the game. The floor was wet when they started the game.
Everyone is jumping on Nike, I am not a Nike fan. But dUKe needs to share the blame on this one.

  4. Breaking news by Charles Barkley has a potential “Smollett” theory surrounding this incident. Apparently, Tonya Harding was seen cashing a check on campus for razor blades. More to follow from Inside The NBA, with ESPN dropping Duke to a 1 seed!

  5. I suppose UK does not like to release details on injuries, but is it safe to assume Travis also has a grade 1 sprain?

  6. Zion sounds like his injury is not as bad as Reid’s. I think Zion will return to play by next Saturday. Reid won’t be back until the SEC tournament. Hope we can hold on to a double bye.
