GATLINBURG — No way do we come here without making sure we visit Anakeesta, the 70-acre outdoor theme park that opened in the fall of 2017 and has something for everyone. Anakeesta was named the 2018 Tennessee Attraction of the Year but has continue to expand and grow.
Tuesday was a gorgeous day — about 70 degree, bright sunshine and just a bit of wind. We took the chair lift from downtown Gatlinburg to the top of the moutain and had a delicious lunch — my hamburger was huge and cooked just right.
I wanted to see the expansion to the Vista Garden Walk and so many flowers were already in full bloom. More than 5,000 new flowers, 800 shrubs, and 250 trees have been planted to double the size of the botanical garden. Additional art sculptures called twigloos are now there and pergolas with shaded seating have been added, along with a whimsical 20’ tall ‘willow man’ sculpture.
The Bearventure Play Area is not quite ready — it should open Memorial Day — but it is going to be something kids of all ages are really going to like.
My only regret — I didn’t have time to try the new coaster.
