Could Kentucky get commitment from 300-pound Alabama offensive lineman?

Joshua Jones

By LARRY VAUGHT

Alabama coach Nick Saban has been finding his way to Kentucky in recent years to land big-name recruits like Damien Harris, Jed Wills and Tanner Bowles.

Now Kentucky is trying to find a way to get a big-time offensive lineman out of Alabama to verbally commit to the Cats.

Three-star offensive tackle Joshua Jones of Phoenix City made his first official visit to UK and now apparently is close to making his college choice. The 6-6, 300-pound Jones is listed as one of the top 60 tackles in America by one recruiting service.

Kentucky first-year linebacker coach Jon Sumrall is an Alabama native who also coached at Troy under former UK offensive coordinator Neal Brown.

Jones originally cut his scholarship offers to six — Kentucky, LSU, Florida State, Tennessee, Mississippi State and North Carolina State.
Getting a commitment from an out of state offensive lineman like Jones early would only give more momentum to what has been a fabulous start to UK’s 2020 recruiting class already.

  1. The kid has decent size and it would be good if we can get him, but its not like we are taking anything away from Saben. He only recruits 5 and sometimes 4 star talent.

    1. But he missed on Bunchy Stallings and Logan Stenberg. EVen Saban can make mistakes in talent evaluation
