Who could Kentucky’s biggest breakout player be next basketball season?

Not sure many UK fans would pick sophomore guard Immanuel Quickley, but coach John Calipari certainly has big expectations for him.

“He played well, shot the ball well (last season). He’s gotten better,” Calipari said. “Again, I expect him to have a breakout year.”

Why?

“He did some really good stuff last year,” Calipari said.

However, he also has the mentality that Calipari thinks it takes to improve.

“A lot of this for these young kids is just a mentality you have to have. You miss a shot, amnesia, next, I’m playing,” Calipari said. “But it’s hard when you’re young like these kids. We’re doing this with young, freshmen.

“But he’s one of the great teammates, terrific. Got so much better defensively, like so much better defensively. And he’s getting a better feel for this.”

  1. Here is a ridiculous idea. Start Hagans, Quickley, Montgomery, Sestina, and Richards and let them all have a break out season. Of course that means all of the hot shot freshmen will have to be marginal role players coming off of the bench…not the way to the NBA. Calipari owes this opportunity to this group for coming back, but he will never do it due to his obsessive commitment to OAD. If those returnees chose to boycott the season, we would be up Larry Pup creek without a paddle. Rah Rah Rah.
