Kentucky ended a 31-year losing streak to Florida with a win at Gainesville last year. So what happened at SEC Media Days on Thursday — Kentucky coach Mark Stoops got reminded that UK had not beat Florida in consecutive seasons since 1976-77.
“Oh, come on now,” Stoops joked.
So what would it be like to start a winning streak against the Gators?
Stoops responded by talking about playing with two-time major champion John Daly in the Barbasol Championship Pro-Am Wednesday in Nicholasville and how much fun that was.
“You’re throwing me off with these streaks and all that about Florida,” Stoops told the reporter who asked the question. “I thought I didn’t have to answer that anymore.
“But to answer your question, every game’s important. And, you know, each and every game, a team in the East, we had Florida at home, it’s an important game, but so are the other 11.”
Junior receiver Lynn Bowden got asked about the Gators, too.
“After the win at Florida, everybody was excited, but we knew we had a long season ahead of us. We had a tough schedule last year, and I think we have a tough schedule this year,” Bowden said.
“We are going to look at every game one step at a time. Right now, my main focus is Toledo (in the first game). I haven’t even looked at anything for Florida, but if we were to beat them this year, it would be great.”
