Agent Ed Berry: “There’s nothing wrong with Randall Cobb.”

Randall Cobb and agent Ed Berry are former UK teammates.

Agent Ed Berry is a little biased when it comes to one of his NFL clients, former Wildcat Randall Cobb.

He believes Cobb is set for a breakout season with Dallas this year after spending his first eight years in the NFL with Green Bay where he caught 470 passes for 5,524 yards and 75 touchdowns in 105 games. Green Bay, though, let him go after he had just 38 catches for 383 yards and two touchdowns in 2018 when injuries forced him to miss seven games.

Not only is Cobb a client, but Berry and Cobb also played football together for two years at Kentucky and were off-campus roommates during Cobb’s final year at UK.

“What made him special at Kentucky is what makes him who he is,” Berry, an Eminence native. “He would always get there early and stay late. I really became great friends with him. He was best man at my wedding. I was best man at his wedding.

“The last 14 or 15 years we have been joined at the hip. He was everything you could want in a teammate and leader. He’s a class act off the field just like he is on the field. He’s been having a great camp and is really lighting it up. Dallas has a big spot in its offense for a slot receiver and he can do so much for the Cowboys.”

Berry says Cobb was like a “Swiss Army Knife” at Kentucky because he could do a little bit of everything. He was not used that way in Green Bay and quarterback Aaron Rodgers, another one of Berry’s clients.

“I could see him in the backfield in Dallas. Maybe a couple of wildcat formations. Lot of motion with him,” Berry said. “I think he’s poised to have an extremely big year and get back to form.”

Cobb is making $5 million this season on a one-year contract. Dallas plays its first exhibition game Saturday night at the Los Angeles Rams.

“There’s nothing wrong with Randall. He’s just been banged up,” Berry said. “He’s dynamic. He’s always been a playmaker with the ball in his hands. He’s having a solid camp and just being Randall like all UK fans know he can be.”
