Being in Cade Cunningham’s top five means very little for Kentucky

Cade Cunningham (USA Basketball)

Normally have Kentucky make the final five list for one of the nation’s top recruits is really good news for coach John Calipari and his staff.

However, I’m not sure making the final five for 2020 recruiting superstar Cade Cunningham really matters all that much.

Cunningham said Thursday he’s cut his list to Kentucky, North Carolina, Florida, Washington and Oklahoma State.  Normally that would seem to set up a UK-North Carolina battle considering the success both teams have and the players both send to the NBA.

But this is not a normal recruitment because Oklahoma State recently hired his brother as an assistant coach. That’s not a guarantee Cade Cunningham will go there, but the Texas five-star forward is all but considered a lock for the Cowboys based on everyone I’ve talked to.

Cunningham plans to sign during the November period. Maybe he’ll even take an official visit to Kentucky. But even if he does, don’t get excited. He’s  Oklahoma State-bound.

  1. You may be right! He has little chance at a title there and their track record at putting players in the League is terrible compared to Kentucky. Trying to figure out a teenagers mind is a task in futility. Never count Cal out with top players. Things are never quite as logical as they seem. I hope he visits UK, before making his decision.
