I remember watching Micah Smith of Casey County win the 2013 Class AA Kentucky high jump state championship and also watching him play basketball for the Rebels. However, never did I imagine one day that he not only would hike the 2,200-mile Appalachian Trail but would finish it in 130 days by averaging between 20-25 miles hiking per day.
Let me just say that my admiration for this 25-year-old athlete is not at an all-time high. I have known others who hiked part of the trail, but he’s the first person I actually know who has completed it.
Enjoy some of his pictures of his hike from Georgia to Maine that started in May and ended in August. He will also be on WKYB (107.5 FM, wkybfm.com) Thursday at 9:40 a.m. to talk about his journey.
