Kentucky Mr. Basketball Dontaie Allen has been “doing things in the gym” but coach John Calipari said Tuesday that the UK freshman is still likely a month away from being ready to practice.
Allen injured his knee in late December and then broke his collar bone in May. Calipari said he was no medical expert but could only confirm he had not been practicing with other players.
The Kentucky freshman said things were “going good” and sounded optimistic he would be practicing soon.
“I’m at the end of the process, so it should be sometime a little later, but in the beginning of the season,” Allen said Tuesday. “It (the knee) feels good. I woke up this morning and thought, ‘Man, I’m trying to dunk.’”
That might be a bit ambitious but it shows how anxious he is to get back playing after suffering two injuries in five months.
“I think that anytime things like that happen with a car wreck and being off the court watching games, I think you grow on and off the court. From the off the court perspective, you see how guys move and their tactics,” Allen said.
