Freshman linebacker Jared Casey of Louisville knows Saturday’s game against Louisville is going to be “fun” for a lot of reasons.
“I’ve been looking forward to this game ever since I committed here, so it’s going to be fun,” Casey said. “It’s a rivalry game so it’s going to make it more important and we always want to beat them. I grew up in Louisville. I know the rivalry so if anyone knows the rivalry, I do.”
Win or lose, Kentucky has the six wins necessary to be bowl eligible.
“I think it’s going to be a great feeling being able to go to my first bowl game and just being able to complete my team. I’ll be playing in that game and I think it’ll be fun,” Casey said.
This is a redshirt year for Casey thanks to the new rule where a player can participate in four years without blowing his redshirt year. He’s played in two games already, so Saturday’s game and the bowl game will be his four games to save his redshirt year.
Stoops knows Casey along with another Louisville freshman lineabacker, JJ Weaver, will be excited for Saturday’s game against the Cardinals.
“They are excited about each opportunity they have to play in games and when they are dialed in,” Stoops said. ” I really like this rule, I think that it’s been really helpful to the players and really for us as well because we get thin and we need some help in certain games from backups that are game-ready.
“The fact that they’ve progressed through the year is a direct reflection to this rule and what it is meant for, so they’ll both be ready play and are excited about the opportunity.”
