Ripley’s Aquarium just brings out the big kid in me

By LARRY VAUGHT

During my two weeks in Myrtle Beach recently one of my favorite experiences was the visit to Ripley’s Aquarium. I’ve been before but there is just something about an aquarium visit that is always fun.

One huge plus at this time of year is that you can take all the time you want looking at exhibits — and there are so many of them.

I loved getting to pet/rub stingrays and horseshoe crabs and all the information the employees share about both. It was also fun watching the diver feed fish and stingrays and getting to interact some with her — the big kid in me just can’t help it.

Lot of interactive exhibits in aquarium that normally kids surround but I got to enjoy them all too, including taking a selfie and putting my face in a bubble, because with school in session the exhibits were open.

It’s always so relaxing and peaceful to see the colorful fish in the water and this is one time getting close to the sharks is really nice. Any visit to this attraction is good, but going at this time of year with small crowds is a huge bonus.

But nothing wrong with a spring/summer/fall visit, either, and there are so many special things to do, including diving with the sharks and a glass bottom boat ride over the sharks.

The aquarium has so many special events like a Valentine’s dinner and the 5K Penguin Dash and Family Fun Run Feb. 15 — an event I would love to have been able to participate in and hope to be able to do in 2021.
