One TV analyst that Mike Pratt always enjoyed watching was former University of Kentucky basketball standout Larry Conley.

Pratt, now the analyst for the UK Radio Network and a former UK All-American, met Conley when he was being recruited at Kentucky and still has vivid memories of one encounter with Conley.

“They had an all-star game in Lexington and I was staying with Phil Argento,” said Pratt, who was from Dayton, Ohio. “We were going out to eat on a Saturday night and were standing in front of Hagan Hall.

“A car pulls up and a guy rolls out. It was Larry. We run to get him. He had had a few beers. since the season was over. He said it was the first drink he had since before the season started. He tried to tell me how great Kentucky was. We walked him to his room. The season was over and he was just having a good time. That’s why I say he recruited me.”

During Pratt’s freshman season at UK, Conley was going to law school.

“We played a team he put together,” Pratt said. “I have gotten to know him so well over the years. But I always tell him I remember how he helped recruit me.”
