When Jon Sumrall played linebacker at Kentucky, he was a relentless defender. Apparently he’s just as relentless as a recruiter.
Georgia linebacker Martez Thrower — what a perfect name for him if he played quarterback — gave his verbal commitment to UK Saturday afternoon in a conversation with Rivals.com on his grandmother’s birthday even though he may well have given the UK coaching staff the unofficial news several weeks ago.
So far in the 2021 recruiting class, Sumrall has been the lead recruiter for receiver Christian Lewis of Alabama, defensive end Kahlil Saunders of Alabama, Georgia receiver Chauncey Magwood and junior college linebacker Joko Willis. That’s five of UK’s 13 commitments in the 2021 class now for Sumrall.
The 6-1, 210-pound Thrower is a high three-star prospect according to 247Sports Composite after making 85 tackles, including 14.5 tackles for loss, last year.
Thrower’s other offers included Arkansas, Michigan State, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Colorado, Georgia Tech and Nebraska.
