Numbers project 14-point win over Georgia

The On Again-Off Again Cats were in the On Again mode on Saturday when Florida entered Rupp Arena. Can anyone really know which brand of Cat will make an appearance at Rupp Arena on Tuesday night when the Georgia Bulldogs come to town?

Georgia brings a 13-8, 6-4 record into this SEC showdown with the Cats, who sport a record of 17-6, 7-3 in the SEC. Georgia completed their non-conference schedule 7-4, with losses to #69 Chattanooga by 2 in OT, at #30 Seton Hall by 7, to #39 Kansas State by 2, and at #29 Baylor by 10. Georgia’s most impressive non-conference win came at the expense of #52 Clemson by 23.

Labissiere thinks about rebounding all the time

Too often this season Skal Labissiere and I have had the same number of rebounds in games. Kentucky coach John Calipari has been on Labissiere about his rebounding for months — and that won’t change tonight against Georgia.

“That’s something I think about all the time,” Labissiere said Monday about his rebounding woes.

It has been so bad that against Florida when the 7-foot freshman got a rebound the Rupp Arena crowd cheered.

“I heard some. I heard a little bit,” he said.

Robic says Georgia should be good opponent for Isaac Humphries tonight

Kentucky fans have been wanting Isaac Humphries to play more and for Tai Wynyard just to play.

Well, UK fans should get one of their wishes tonight against Georgia because UK assistant coach John Robic said Monday his play in last week’s win over Florida — four points, six rebounds, two blocks — earned him more playing time. Wynyard likely will again watch from the bench.

John Robic breaks down Georgia’s defense, offense

Kentucky associate coach John Robic said not only does Georgia, tonight’s UK opponent, defend the 3-point line well but it also defends inside well, too.

“They really don’t overextend defensively, man-to-man wise. Sort of more like a pack-line defense, packing it in, which we’ve seen a bunch of this year and we’re doing a good job with that,” Robic said Monday.

Katina Powell will be on Kentucky Sports Radio at 11

I have no idea what has been Kentucky Sports Radio’s highest day for ratings, but today could well be a record-setting day for host Matt Jones and Ryan Lemond on the show.

Jones has persuaded Katina Powell to join him on the show. The show runs 10 a.m. to 12 noon daily and Powell will join the show at 11 a.m.

She’s the one who wrote the book, “Breaking Cardinal Rules,” that alleged she attended more than 20 sex parties inside the basketball players’ dorm at Louisville from 2010 to 2014 that were arranged by former Louisville director of basketball operations and graduate assistant Andre McGee.

SOMERSET — Former Louisville and NBA standout Rodney McCray says the recent problems at Louisville — and the self-imposed ban on postseason play this season “hit home deep” with him.

“I hope they can get through it,” McCray said Sunday after coaching Victory Prep (Houston) in The Grind Session at Pulaski County High School. “I don’t know any particulars. I just get it off the news. I just feel bad for the players who are there now who weren’t attending the university when the alleged incidents happened.”

Fox has one word for Kentucky guards — terrific

What does Georgia coach Mark Fox think of Kentucky guards Tyler Ulis, Jamal Murray and Isaiah Briscoe going into Tuesday night’s game in Rupp Arena. He says they are terrific.

“Ulis is so good with the basketball. He’s got great speed, he’s a wonderful decision maker, he makes the guys around him better, he can shoot the ball, he’s great off of a ball screen. His offensive game is very complete,” Fox said Monday on the SEC coaches’ teleconference.

Calipari’s update on Alex Poythress’ knee

Kentucky senior forward Alex Poythress missed Saturday’s game with Florida due to pain in his knee.

After the game Kentucky coach John Calipari said he was not sure about his status and that he would have an X-ray Sunday.

“He’s day to day. I doubt he practices today,” Calipari said Monday on the SEC coaches’ teleconference. “He had the swelling on the knee.

“They took an X-ray, I don’t think the X-ray showed anything. But there’s some reason it is, so it’ll be day to day.”

Guest post: Miles Bridges on dunk, Wiggins, Jarred Vanderbilt

Vaught’s note: Olivia Prewitt is a junior at Danville High School, a contributor and intern with Jennifer Palumbo at WKYT-TV. Here’s a conversation she had with former UK target Miles Bridges, who picked Michigan State over UK.

I appreciate Huntington Prep’s Miles Bridges, a Michigan State signee, taking time out for my quick interview Sunday after his team beat Victory Prep at Pulaski County.

I would also like to mention this guy is a BEAST! In the game I watched Sunday, I felt like he dunked every time I looked up. The entire gym was in awe the whole game! When he came out towards the end, he even got a huge standing ovation.

Former UK player’s wife would like football team to worry more about being relevant on the field than with new uniforms

uniformKentucky has unveiled new football uniforms as well as new logos that some like, some don’t. I got an e-mail from the wife of a former football player — who asked not to be identified so UK officials would not be upset with her — and she is not a fan of the new uniforms at all.

“My first reaction was sadness. The more I’ve thought about it I’m mad and embarrassed.  I understand that Coach Stoops feels the need to change the culture and mindset of UK football since we do not have a storied program.  Can he not do it in an original fashion?” she said.
