We are only two years away from the 40th anniversary of Kentucky’s 1978 national championship team. Trust me, that’s hard for me to fathom because I was not much older than some of the players on that team when the Wildcats won that year.

Still, I have to admit I am already excited about a book about that 1977-78 team that former UK All-American Jack Givens told me about that is being written by Doug Brunk, a Wilmore native who now lives in California.

De’Aaron Fox scored 3,113 points during his high school basketball career for Cypress Lake High School in Texas and averaged 32.4 points per game as a senior.

Yet he admitted he was looking forward to his freshman season at Kentucky due to the talented teammates he’ll have.

“I really enjoy playing with more talent, just because it takes a lot of pressure off you,” he said. “I don’t have to do as much. I can actually play harder. Playing with the best players, it makes your game a lot easier.

Maybe somebody should have invited Bob Knight to attend the game against LSU so he could have watched an academic All American (Alex Poythress) who graduated in three years and is now working on his Masters degree have a Senior Day at UK after playing 4 YEARS as an integral part of the team.

We could also introduce him to Marcus Lee, an All Good Works team player, who is playing as an important part of the last three years along with Derek Willis and Dominique Hawkins, both three-year players, who have also been a critical part of this year’s team.
