When I found out I would be hosting the Leach Report for the vacationing Tom Leach today, I thought it would be great to get Big Blue Nation favorite Shannon Spake on the show to talk about her move from ESPN to FOXSports.

She readily agreed — and then I found out she would actually be on her first day of a family vacation. Not only that, but she was in Seattle, Wash., getting set for a Disney cruise.

On Monday and Tuesday while Tom Leach is taking some vacation time, he’s giving me a chance to host the  Leach Report from 9-10 a.m. each day.

It’s an honor, but also pressure, to host the show because Leach is such a professional and has an informative, entertaining show every time he’s on air.

I hope to do the same because of the guests that have agreed to be on air with  me.

Charlotte, N.C. — College sports have always been a big talking point among sports fans as they download the Best College Sports App to keep up to date with all the goings-on in the sports. And now it’s not just their favorite teams and players they need to keep track of but also the announcers. This is because FOX Sports announces the addition of veteran sports reporter Shannon Spake, who joins the network as a sideline reporter for its college football and college basketball coverage and serves as a member of its NASCAR broadcast team on pit road and in the NASCAR RACE HUB studio. Spake also will report from the sidelines for select FOX NFL broadcasts.

Following Shannon Spake no easy task, but introducing Maggard is

Almost daily I get reminded of how many people listen to the Leach Report daily — and why wouldn’t  you with the job Tom Leach does on the air daily.

Tuesday is my day to join Tom and I will again at 9:40 a.m. But he may have set me up this week. I have to follow ESPN’s Shannon Spake, one of BBN’s favorite media members. Certainly she will be talking about the draft and UK basketball, but she can talk football or go into her recent Ironman performance.

Mission accomplished for ESPN’s Shannon Spake.

She completed the Ironman 70.3 Raleigh (No.C.) in 6 hours, 43 minutes, 27 seconds. She completed the 1.2-mile swim in Jordan Lake in 48:20. The 56-mile bike trek took 3:26:51. Finally, the 13.1-mile run (a half marathon) took her 2:19.12.

Out of 2,283 entries, Spake finished 1,049th. To me, that’s impressive.

Spake grew up a competitive swimmer and ran her first marathon in 2005. She has been doing triathlons about three years and had been training for this event for about six months.

If you are a Shannon Spake fan — and it seems that most University of Kentucky basketball fans are — then you certainly will be supporting her Sunday when she competes in the Ironman 70.3 Raleigh (N.C.).

For those wondering, the 70.3 stands for a 1.2-mile swim in Jordan Lake, a 56-mile bike course that ends in downtown Raleigh and then a 13.1-mile run that even goes through North Carolina State University.

WPBK-FM (102.9) and wpbkfm.com listeners are going to be in for a treat Tuesday from 7:30-8 a.m. when ESPN’s Shannon Spake joins myself and Tim Estes.

There’s no ESPN analyst I respect more than Spake — and no ESPN analyst that Kentucky basketball fans like more and for good reason. Coaches and players also respect her, which is the surest sign she is very, very good at what she does.

We are obviously going to talk UK basketball and college basketball in general. But she can also talk football and NASCAR and a lot, lot more.
